Something which stood out to me whilst in New York was the innovative Visual Merchandising. The stores were so creative, In Converse, the whole wall was covered in converse trainers representing the American flag with the red white and blue, the wall acted as a major focal as well as talking point for customers. Visual Merchandising is an element in the fashion industry which I cant wait to explore, it is limitless and unpredicted.

Brooklyn
I loved the creativity of Brooklyn, everywhere you look there is a piece of art so unique and urban,Brooklyn is an exhibition in itself.

I hate perfume
Whilst in New York we visited the 'I hate perfume' gallery', initially I didn't know what to expect, but what we found was amazing. They mange to capture the perfect essence of an everyday scent such as 'Clean sheets' (one of my favourites) I don't know how they do it, but each scent is the perfect representation of its name. They had scents of food such as 'Birthday Cake' even 'Beef Jerky', you can't get more American than that. For many, including myself a scent could take them back to a particularly memory or time in there life. I was surprised to find that a fragrance could evoke such emotion.

Jean Paul Gaultier
We had the privilege of visiting an exhibition of his in Brooklyn 'The Fashion world of Jean Paul Gaultier from the sidewalk to the catwalk' the exhibition was full of surprises, one of my favourites being the talking mannequins (pictured below). They looked so real and lifelike, it brought the exhibition to life. There was so much to look at and overall I thought the exhibition had a very sexual theme running throughout, I thoroughly enjoyed the creative vision behind the exhibit.

New York!
Concrete Jungle...
With my course FCP we had the incredible opportunity to visit New York! I have never been to America before and have always dreamed of going. It is incredible, the fast pace way of life, the creativity, the food....is definitely something I could get used to very quickly.
The cafe 'Georges' was one of our favourite discoveries of the trip, they sold the most incredible breakfast; classic American style: stacks of pancakes with lashings of maple syrup and heaps of bacon.
I loved the department stores in New York, Bloomingdales, Macy's and Sacks, I could get lost in them for hours, maybe even days. Another favourite part of New York for me was Times Square , the lights the madness, it was surreal and even better than I anticipated.
Something however which I was not Particularly fond of was the weather. -11 was bitter, we couldn't walk outside for more than 15 minutes (at a push) without having to go into a shop just to thaw out, which was an excuse just to keep refuelled on hot drinks and food and discover quirky Cafes.
The whole experience was incredible and I loved every minute of it and I will make it my mission to return, just maybe with a few more layers....
Here are some photographs I took whilst in New York:
