Designing my logo

I wanted to keep my self promotion minimalistic in order to fit with my personal style as well utilizing my initials NH. Here is my final logo design:

V&A
Horst Exhibition

Whilst in London we got the opportunity to visit the Horst Exhibition. The space was used to its full potential, old vogue magazines were restored in glass cabinets as well as large format photographs gracing the walls.

'Fashion in colour' was my favorite segment from the exhibition, the photographs were striking and memorable. Here are my two favorite Horst photographs:

The Photographers' Gallery:
Edward Steichen-

I loved Steichen's exhibition, his photographs perfectly embody Haute Couture and the glamorization that comes with it.

London Trip
Grayson Perry: Who are you?

What is beauty?
Jenny Saville

Jenny Saville's large scale paintings are bold and unapologetic, the angles she uses are unflattering and show women in their most natural being. She chooses to use large women as the subject of her work as they have the physicality that she's interested in. Saville's work is instantly recognisable.

Julien Macdonald

I loved the detail and femininity of Julien Macdonald's SS15 collection.

The Birds and The Bees
Burberry Prorsum SS15

I always look forward to the Burberry shows and absolutely adored their SS14 collection. However I was not a fan of their latest SS15 collection. Against popular opinion I thought there was no flow among the pieces it was a mish mash of colours and patterns that to me didn't make sense visually.

Underwear as outerwear

I love underwear as outerwear, I have a Pinterest board dedicated to this trend:

Katerina Kamprani

After coming across the artist Katerina Kamprani, I love her collection 'The uncomfortable', this being her goal:

"The goal is to re-design useful objects making them uncomfortable but usable and maintain the semiotics of the original item".

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Whilst in Milan we visited one of the worlds oldest shopping centres in the world: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. One of my favourite parts of Milan, it combines the historic with the modern a quality I found throughout the city of Milan. It oozes luxury with brands such as Prada and Louis Vuitton, as well as several fancy restaurants and cafes.

The Berlin Wall

I love to discover different forms of inspiration. The East Side Gallery is a memorial for freedom in Germany expressing it in a modern, creative and innovative way. Without losing sight of the history and sacrifices made in the search for equality and an end to segregation.

Each painting was bold and demonstrative and was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Here are some photographs a The East Side Gallery:

KaDeWe

Whilst in Berlin we visited the biggest department store in Europe: The Kaufhaus Des Westens or what it's more commonly known as KaDeWe. The inside was modern, luxurious, upmarket and to state the obvious...BIG. We spent a couple of hours browsing all which KeDeWe had to offer.

Here are a couple of photographs I took inside:

Bershka

Whilst in Berlin I came across a new store Bershka. I had never come across this retailer before. Aimed at a younger target market, their style of clothing I found similar to the high-street store Zara. They had some unique pieces all at a reasonable price .Bershka is part of the Spanish Inditex group which also owns Zara, Zara Home, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Uterque and Stradivarius.

Bershka also has stores in the UK and will now be a brand which I will look out for.

Travelling around Europe!

I've always aspired to travel. Seeing and experiencing different sights and cultures is something that has always been of interest to me. For the past three weeks I have been interrailing around Europe. Starting in Berlin, we then visited Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Croatia then ended with the stunning Italy. I will always take any opportunity to visit and experience new places.

'Slick' advertisement

Here is our final image for our advertisement. We wanted to emphasise movement therefore we used a layering technique as well as changing the opacity levels to heighten this idea of motion. We felt that the red top clashed and distracted from our logo, therefore we changed the colour to more neutral tones which complimented the rest of the image. We incorporated our logo and slogan as well as an image of overall product.

Photo shoot for 'Slick'

As part of fragrance project we are to include an advertisement to promote our product 'Slick'. 'Slick' is for a 'Guy on the go' therefore we got our models to move and jump around in order to capture movement. Here are some photographs from the shoot:

The minimalist

I am obsessed with anything minimalistic, it has a certain classic and chic aesthetic yet at the same time completely modernistic. To feed this obsession I have created a new blog with the sole focus being minimalism.

Kellogg's tweet shop

In today's lecture, something which stood out to me as an innovative and successful promotion strategy was the case study of the Kellogg's tweet shop. Kellogg's pop up shop enabled customers to pay with social currency-a tweet creating a buzz around their new product.

"The value of positive endorsements on social media sites is beyond compare, so we're excited to be the first company to literally use social currency instead of financial currency to launch this new product in our bespoke Special K shop," - Brand Manager Sarah Case.

Collaborating with product designers

Working with product designers we gave them a written brief on the design and function of our product as well as mood boards reflecting our target market, as well as design features such as the logo and colours.

The product designers then digitally designed our product as well as physically making a model. We were really pleased with the outcome, the finished result was exactly what we envisaged. Here are some examples of the digital version:

Creating our scent

As part of our perfume brief we were given the opportunity to create our own scent. We were given different scents to select from which we then combined to create our unique fragrance. We also had to consider what what our consumer would want as well as what represents our brand. I felt this hands on and creative approach made us as a team excited about our fragrance, and actually having a product at the end which we made ourselves is rewarding.

Perfume brief

We have been given a new brief focusing on perfume, in teams we are to create a new brand of perfume using innovative and fresh ideas that don't already exist in the market.

On Pinterest I have created a board dedicated to perfume, here are some images I find relevant and I feel will be beneficial to the brief. After doing research into Perfume bottle designs and packaging, a simplistic minimal look is something which stands out to me, the classic Chanel bottle is my favourite on the market.

Taste Makers

As a seminar task we were asked to think of our own taste makers, someone who inspires us in a creative way. I chose iconic Photographer Norman Parkinson  and the exquisitely elegant Olivia Palermo.

Norman Parkinson

I have always been obsessed with 1950's photography and style, it has a certain classic and timeless element. Norman Parkinson is one of my favourite photographers from that era. His unique and daring approach to fashion photography was something of a revelation in the world of fashion. Instead of using the conventional studio settings to capture his photographs he took his models into unpredicted settings which made his photos something of an art piece. He injected innovation into fashion photography changing the industry forever.

Olivia Palermo

I adore and obsess over Olivia Palermo's wardrobe and her classic yet daring sense of style. She oozes elegance reminding me of a young Audrey Hepburn with her timeless and fragile look. She isn't afraid to mix bold patterns and colours which is something which has made her become such a style icon. Constantly on best dressed lists as well having front row seats to all major fashion shows she is completely immersed in the fashion industry.
