BURBERRY

As part of my University course we had the privilege of having Greg Stogden from Burberry give us a guest Q&A lecture. I've never seen a lecture theatre so packed with eager students, everyone knew what an incredible opportunity it was. Gregs' hard working attitude came as no surprise, success doesn't come without hard work.Being from Leeds, I was interested to find out that the iconic Burberry trench coat is created in a factory in West Yorkshire.

The Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2014 collection immediately caught my eye. The collection is ultra feminine, the use of dreamy pastel colours and gorgeous lace fabrics with touches of vibrancy work together beautifully. The dazzling jewels shimmer on the catwalk, the whole catwalk show is mesmerising. To me the collection screams summer romance. .

"I wanted it (the collection) to be gentle
soft and romantic..."

Christopher Bailey

"I'm just in love with Burberry, always have been always will be"

LONDON
(Photographs all my own)

As well as visiting the V&A museum we also continued to research designer Tom Ford for our team presentation.

We visited the Tom Ford section in Harrods as well his London Flagship store. Both were immensely helpful for research purposes that will go towards our presentation.

Here are some photographs of some of Tom ford products in both Harrods and in the flagship store.

CLUB TO CATWALK -
FASHION THE 1980'S (Exhibition at the V&A)

At the V&A Museum London, the exhibition 'Club to catwalk-fashion in the 1980's' celebrated the bold, fearless fashion of the 1980's and the fusion between club and catwalk.

The exhibition demonstrated the huge impact that the London Club Scene had on the international fashion world. The lean silhouettes of the 1970's were replaced by the limitless and fearless fashion of the 1980's. 1980's fashion consisted of oversized garments, teased hair, ripped jeans and neon clothing. Sportswear was big in the 80's stretch fabrics and Lycra was all the rage.

Designers were experimental and immensely daring during the fashion movement of the 1980's:

"WE WERE THE BRAVE NEW FACE OF FASHION AND THE BRITISH FASHION INDUSTRY WAS FRIGHTENED TO DEATH OF IT."
(Betty Jackson)

The New Romantics style emerged from Blitz Club. There was a strict dress code to be met if you wanted to gain entry to the exclusive 'Blitz' club, the clubs' promoter Steve Strange, made sure only the most creative were let in.:

"THE LOOK WAS ANDROGYNOUS, DRIPPING WITH DIAMANTE AND LADEN DOWN WITH EYELINER - THAT WAS JUST THE MEN."

(Steve Strange)

Vintage Fair

I've always been a lover of all things vintage, and vintage fairs are a great place to find inspiration and unique treasures. You can browse for hours absorbing the atmosphere, enjoying the jazzy music from past eras. Admiring fellow shoppers wearing outfits that look like they belong in the 1950's, to then searching for your own hidden gem amongst the chaos. I love it, and am always on the hunt for upcoming fairs.

These are some photographs I took from a recent Vintage fair in Nottingham:
